This year Rewind 96.1 is supporting the Breast Cancer Foundation.
During the year the Breast Cancer Foundation holds two large fundraising events, the biggest of the two is in May the Pink Ribbon Breakfast.
The Pink Ribbon Breakfast fundraiser doesn’t have to be a Breakfast, it could be a virtual event, a pink dress up day at work, a nice wee coffee date with your girlfriends or a quiz night event. People host all sorts of events, it doesn’t have to be big, something small is all it takes to help the Breast Cancer Foundation.
This year the Breast Cancer foundation is down 50% of sign-ups from last year and Rewind 96.1 wants to help increase this number for the foundation. This campaign helps raise money for breast cancer education, research, and patient support by holding a Pink Ribbon Breakfast this year.
Every breakfast is perfect for supporting women with breast cancer. Sign up at www.pinkribbonbreakfast.co.nz
Breast Cancer is New Zealand's third most common cancer and accounts for more than 600 deaths every year. The risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer increases with age. About 70% - 75% of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer and about 80% of women who die from it are aged 50 years or older. However, women under 50 can still develop breast cancer.
Some women are at greater risk of breast cancer because there is a history of close family members having the disease. However, most women who develop breast cancer have no relatives with the disease. Even among women who do have relatives with breast cancer, most will never develop it. Despite this being the case women who are at risk should still get checked.
If you find a lump or bump on your Breast go get a check!
